Jim Herr

Jim Herr was a professional educator for over 43 years, spending 30 years teaching history and the gifted reading program at Austintown Fitch High School. Mr. Herr earned his master's degree in Education from YSU in 1974. He had a passion for life, and an unwavering commitment to his students. During the summers he embraced his love for travel visiting almost every corner of the world, most especially his beloved Scotland, where his mother was born.

Through his estate plan, Mr. Herr made provisions to establish the James W. Herr Endowment Fund for the Beeghly College of Education. This past year, funding from the Herr Endowment provided students the opportunity to work as program counselors at the Tabernacle Baptist Church's Children Defense Fund Summer Freedom School.The free summer-literacy program for area youth, engages the minds and imaginations of its participants.

Many donors choose to fund an endowment by making a pledge over a period of three to five years, or by making provisions in their estate plan.
